Last weekend we had a four-day weekend, which meant that I had an extra day before I started school after coming back from new york. On that Monday I decided to continue a project that I started working on a while ago and just put off completing. The project is a painted collage of cartoon characters, and I decided to make it SpongeBob-themed, as that was one of my favorite shows growing up. I had a 12" x 12" canvas that I was working on and made 16 squares on it, which are all 3" x 3." I had started some of the painting and sketching but didn't complete all of it. I started off by painting one of the squares that I already had a sketch on, which was of the character plankton. Before I start painting I tape a border around the square so that I don't accidentally paint on another square. It was really nice to paint for pleasure again, and since it was so small it only took me about 15 minutes to paint. It was also really satisfying to pull off the tape and see the painting in a neat square. While the Plankton section was drying I then sketched the box that was dedicated to the Bikini Bottom Welcome sign. I looked up a picture of the sign that I thought looked the best and sketched that drawing onto the canvas. I then painted the Jellyfish and Squidward sections. While doing this I remembered why this project did take me too long to get back to. It was really time-consuming and it can be hard to paint things that are really small, especially since I like my painting to be really neat and orderly. However, I persevered and was able to complete 3 paintings and one sketch and I plan to continue this project this weekend.
Yesterday, my high school had our Lunar New Year celebration. For the past three years, I have been organizing the celebrations. This year, the teacher who supervises my planning wanted to have our celebration with the middle school, so we can get more students involved. I thought this was a great idea, but I was at first worried about how we would accommodate a lot more people in our activities, as we would be going from about 110 people to 180. This meant that I had to purchase a lot more materials for each activity so that all students and faculty could get participate. We also wanted to make sure we all were staying together and really integrating middle school and high school. For Lunar New Year, we always provide lunch, so I thought it would be good to serve food in the middle school, then require that everyone eats in the high school or on the quad. This way, we were all staying together instead of separating into our building. I think that this worked well to keep us all togeth...
