This weekend I volunteered to go take care of ducks and koi fish. I brought my sister with me to help me, as I forgot some of the things that I had to do. These ducks are koi fish were at my old school. The school got these ducks when I was in middle school and since then I have helped volunteer to take care of them over some weekends. To take care of these animals I have to feed them, clean the pond, refill the water buckets, and water the plants. When I got to my old school I started off my prepping the ducks and the fish's food. I then cleaned the koi pond, which was full of feathers and leaves. After doing that I fed the ducks and then the koi. While the koi were eating I had to keep the ducks out of the pond, otherwise, they would eat all of the fish food. After taking care of the animals I watered the plants in the school's garden. After finishing that, I refilled all the other food containers so that other people didn't have to do it that week. From this experience, I think I showed commitment and perseverance. I have been committed to taking care of these ducks since I was in middle school, and I have shown this commitment by making continuing to volunteer in high school. I also showed perseverance in this particular volunteer experience because I was originally confused about where some items have now been placed, but after receiving help from my sister I was able to complete all of the tasks.
Yesterday, my high school had our Lunar New Year celebration. For the past three years, I have been organizing the celebrations. This year, the teacher who supervises my planning wanted to have our celebration with the middle school, so we can get more students involved. I thought this was a great idea, but I was at first worried about how we would accommodate a lot more people in our activities, as we would be going from about 110 people to 180. This meant that I had to purchase a lot more materials for each activity so that all students and faculty could get participate. We also wanted to make sure we all were staying together and really integrating middle school and high school. For Lunar New Year, we always provide lunch, so I thought it would be good to serve food in the middle school, then require that everyone eats in the high school or on the quad. This way, we were all staying together instead of separating into our building. I think that this worked well to keep us all togeth...
