As part of my school's Odyssey Week, we spend the day at Brazos Bend State Park. While we were there the school held a cooking competition, in which we were all split into groups of about six to nine people. At the beginning of the day, we got into our groups and worked together to figure out the meal we would be making. Since there were a lot of us, I had to make sure that I was actively listening to everyone's opinions and dietary restrictions. Listening is a very important skill for group work and I think that I was able to use that skill well when trying to figure out our meal plan. We all agreed on making chicken kabobs, salad, and smores. I and another person from my group then went to the store to buy all of the items we would need for our meal. Going to the store with another person was very beneficial because we were able to split up the work or calculating the prices and finding items, which made the whole shopping process go a lot quicker. I was also able to ask the other person for their opinion on certain items so that we made sure we got the best items we could within our budget. After our hike at Brazos Bend, we started the cooking competition. My group split up the work, and all worked on making different parts of the meal. Splitting up the work did involve a lot of communication because we had to make sure that everyone had what they needed and everything was being made properly. Working in a group was definitely very beneficial for this because it made the competition a lot less stressful and we were able to make sure every component of our dish was made well. While working in a group I was able to practice my listening and communication skills, while also getting reminded of the benefits and ease that comes from working in a group.

September 30, 2021     Last Thursday I went to my MMUN Internship. For my internship, I work with Upper Elementary students (4th-6th grade) and I help them get prepared for the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) conference, which will be held in February. This week the students I am helping, needed to be sorted into their topics and committee rooms so that they can start research on their topics and countries. I volunteered to do this for my supervisor so she could focus on the other things that needed to get done. I prepared a form that listed all the topics and their descriptions for the students. I had them pick their top three topic choices so that I can sort them into groups based on their topic choices. When I got their forms back I started working on sorting them all into their topics and committee sections, with the other interns that I work with. This process was quite difficult, because some topics did not have enough people that chose them, so some student...

Yesterday, my high school had our Lunar New Year celebration. For the past three years, I have been organizing the celebrations. This year, the teacher who supervises my planning wanted to have our celebration with the middle school, so we can get more students involved. I thought this was a great idea, but I was at first worried about how we would accommodate a lot more people in our activities, as we would be going from about 110 people to 180. This meant that I had to purchase a lot more materials for each activity so that all students and faculty could get participate. We also wanted to make sure we all were staying together and really integrating middle school and high school. For Lunar New Year, we always provide lunch, so I thought it would be good to serve food in the middle school, then require that everyone eats in the high school or on the quad. This way, we were all staying together instead of separating into our building. I think that this worked well to keep us all togeth...

This past Saturday my school had our winter dance. I am one of the co-presidents of the fun committee, which is in charge of planning school events. For the dance, we went with a winter theme so we used decorations such as snowflakes and white trees. The dance was being held in my high school's west commons, which is a communal workspace, so we could not decorate until the day before. So on the Friday before the dance, I made a sketch of the entire space to start planning where all of the decorations would go and to be a guide to the people helping set up. I was really proud of this sketch because I am not the most confident in my drawing abilities, but I think it was very clear. I included the west commons and all of the classrooms and offices attached to it. After school ended the members of the fun committee and I started to decorate the west commons. We put up some of the easier things like the snowflakes on the walls and windows, the fake snow, trees, tablecloths, and silver b...
