S LO#2

        This weekend I helped people powerwash their driveways. My dad and two of my neighbors really needed their driveways washed. My dad taught me how to set up the powerwasher and how it works, so I now know how to do that. Then on Saturday morning, I worked on power washing my dad's driveway. I tried out the different settings on the powerwasher to see which of them worked best. I started off with the 15 cm spetting, which was very good at getting all the dirt off. I then tried the 45 cm spetting which also worked at getting the dirt off, however, it was not as good as the 15 cm setting. I decided to use the 15 cm setting because it got more of the dirt out, so I would get a better end result. Using the powerwasher was kind of difficult because it takes some getting used to at first. After the first few minutes, I did get used to it and the rest of the driveway was relatively easy to do. On Saturday afternoon I started working on my neighbor's driveway. I think that I completed their driveway a lot quicker because I was more used to using the powerwasher. It was a lot hotter in the afternoon though so it felt like it took longer to finish. Then I power washed my second neighbor's driveway on Sunday morning. Overall, I definitely learned that power washing driveways is harder than I expected, however, I did learn how to use a powerwasher so I am grateful for the experience.

S LO#3

Yesterday, my high school had our Lunar New Year celebration. For the past three years, I have been organizing the celebrations. This year, the teacher who supervises my planning wanted to have our celebration with the middle school, so we can get more students involved. I thought this was a great idea, but I was at first worried about how we would accommodate a lot more people in our activities, as we would be going from about 110 people to 180. This meant that I had to purchase a lot more materials for each activity so that all students and faculty could get participate. We also wanted to make sure we all were staying together and really integrating middle school and high school. For Lunar New Year, we always provide lunch, so I thought it would be good to serve food in the middle school, then require that everyone eats in the high school or on the quad. A LO#5

       As part of my school's Odyssey Week, we spend the day at Brazos Bend State Park. While we were there the school held a cooking competition, in which we were all split into groups of about six to nine people. At the beginning of the day, we got into our groups and worked together to figure out the meal we would be making. Since there were a lot of us, I had to make sure that I was actively listening to everyone's opinions and dietary restrictions. Listening is a very important skill for group work and I think that I was able to use that skill well when trying to figure out our meal plan. We all agreed on making chicken kabobs, salad, and smores. I and another person from my group then went to the store to buy all of the items we would need for our meal. Going to the store with another person was very beneficial because we were able to split up the work or calculating the prices and finding items, which made the whole shopping process go a lot quicker. C LO#5

This past Saturday my school had our winter dance. I am one of the co-presidents of the fun committee, which is in charge of planning school events. For the dance, we went with a winter theme so we used decorations such as snowflakes and white trees. The dance was being held in my high school's west commons, which is a communal workspace, so we could not decorate until the day before. So on the Friday before the dance, I made a sketch of the entire space to start planning where all of the decorations would go and to be a guide to the people helping set up. I was really proud of this sketch because I am not the most confident in my drawing abilities, but I think it was very clear.
